This lovely holiday home is situated inland, but only 25 minutes from Royan on the coast with its wonderful beaches, or 20 minutes from the smaller resort of St-Georges-de-Didonne. Also close to the picturesque port of Mortagne-sur-Gironde with its three good and reasonably priced restaurants. Cognac is only about twenty five miles away, and its significance is self explanatory! The ancient town of Saintes is about twenty minutes. There are many Roman churches in the immediate vicinity. Take the ferry from Royan across to the Medoc, and visit the famous wine châteaux such as Lafite, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Margaux and Petrus etc.,
The house can be divided into two sections, the upstairs and downstairs
but we never let them separately, at the same time. You either rent the
whole house or just the ground floor, which consists of three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Normally we do not rent just the ground floor in peak season, but please ask, just in case.
The whole house sleeps sixteen, whereas the ground floor sleeps seven, plus a cot.
When renting just the ground floor, you do of course still have exclusive
use of the pool and grounds.
There are good golf courses at Royan,Cognac,and Saintes, and riding at Cozes and Epargnes, just 8 minutes away
Seafood is an important part of the cuisine of the Charentes, as a look at the quayside restaurants of La Rochelle, Royan, and Mortagne, with their menus of sea bass and turbot and Oleron oysters, and mussels will confirm. Try a local favourite, ‘moules au Pineau’ mussels cooked with tomatoes, Pineau, garlic and parsley. We can arrange wine and Cognac tasting, at our friend Jackie Bujard, who has a super tasting salon, with no obligation to buy.
AT HOME we have table tennis, boule,books, videos, DVDs, Sky TV, Scrabble, & Monopoly.
